Birthdays and preparing for Lent

Last week was birthday week in our house, with both Andy and I celebrating and following our birthdays there is always the promise of Spring.

Word of the month March - Spring
Despite having a mild winter, it has been a very wet one this year and so the appearance of the sunshine this week has been very welcomed.

Andy has been out in the garden planting onion sets and potatoes in the newly refurbished vegetable patch, as well as preparing the ground and hanging netting to keep the birds and cats out and for peas and beans to climb up later.

We have also managed to eat in the garden this weekend, having a early afternoon tea on Sunday with homemade scones.

This weekend I had time to myself to get some crafting done.

Having tidied up the craft storage area during my New Year Grand Cleaning Challenge, I was able to find all the papers easily and lay them out to get inspired.

The result was I made 18 cards, birthday and Easter.  It was nice just making cards, rather than meeting a need for a card.

Which means that my card box is replenished for the coming months.

As Wednesday saw the start of Lent, we prepared with pancakes on Tuesday and discussed what we would be giving up.  Andy if giving up chocolate and biscuits (as he does most years).

The boys and I are giving time on electronic gadgets to spend time together playing family games each evening.  The aim is to play 40 different games on the 40 days of Lent.  I'll set up a separate post each Wednesday giving details of the games we have played in the past week.  As a preview, here is the pile of games under Jacob's bed waiting for us to work through.

Why not leave a comment with what you have given up for Lent?

The Bible passage for this week is, which was also linked to our sermon series that started today:
He has saved us and called us to a holy life
not because of anything we have done
but because of his own purpose and grace.
This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,
2 Timothy 1:9

Our prayer as a family this week as we enter the season of Lent that we will all spend time thinking about the sacrifice God made for us in sending his Son and prepare for Easter with the same enthusiasm as we do for Christmas.

With God's blessings from my family to yours,
